Emotional rollercoaster of PR
This last week I've maxed out at the bottom and top of my emotions.
Last weekend I was struggling with feeling acutely pre-menstrual having pushed myself a little too hard the previous two weeks preparing for upcoming national PR exposure, online courses and marketing on top of my current clients. For me a drop of oestrogen plus too little down time looks like "I want to run away, I need to be alone, I can't cope with basic tasks and childcare and I don't feel like myself".
We all do it occasionally even if we are more self aware. By tracking it daily and confronting it, I've taken on some support to help me move forward, whilst accepting where I've been struggling to do it alone. I need exactly the sort of support my clients need, just in different areas. This business is only going to put more pressure and excitement my way, so I need to get more processes, habits and support in place to ensure I can keep it sustainable for my health.
Monday & Tuesday started to feel pretty upbeat and I took on more clients. Just a change in hormones can bring huge relief when a couple of hard days hit you. I know this from my tracking so I was grateful that it was still true. What I wasn’t expecting quite yet was…
“My editor has just tweeted the article” said my client, Emma Reed
Wednesday I got a message from @emmareedwrites saying that her national newspaper The i Paper editor had just tweeted her online article. Neither of us knew if this article had also gone to print. Imagine our surprise to see Emma Reed on the front page (mouth taped shut just as I had done in THE Sun article). Not only did she achieve front page but a double page spread in national newspaper The i Paper.
When I saw THE Sun title “I taped my mouth shut to save my marriage – my heavy breathing was so bad my husband called me Darth Vader“ my armpits felt like Niagara Falls and my heart pounded in my chest as I wondered how my husband would take it (luckily his response was "good publicity"). Whereas, when I saw Emma Reed’s article, “I was waking with panic attacks, then I signed up for breathing lessons and learnt we’re all doing it wrong“ I felt excited. I trusted Emma because she's an exceptional emotive writer. She wrote the truth and she wrote it in a way that people could relate.
I felt like a helium balloon stuck on the ceiling, I was so high on excitement that day, watching as emails and 'free call appointments' gently rolled in.
After the first 75 visitors hit the site, I realised I hadn’t updated the next date for my Online Empowerment Course For Anxious Upper Chest Breathers. I quickly got this updated, accepting that some may have left my site forever, whilst others had chosen to book a free call anyway.
Since Wednesday, I've remained excited, positive and grateful, but put a lot more focus towards my own health and preparations for maintaining it as my diary becomes more intense.
I am grateful for my faith in the incremental steps
I am grateful that through the hard times in the past year I chose to keep my faith in my entrepreneurial journey. Every little step I took didn't immediately pay off, but I had faith that it was working towards a time when the business would get the external support it needed to achieve my mission...
“To lead global education on healthy breathing & breathing retraining in a simple, accessible way.”
Through putting myself out there, I was able to connect with Emma Reed. I am so grateful for her finding me at a time that she needed to and choosing to not only trust me enough to work with me, but also for giving such wonderful feedback inside and outside of the article.
Which mouth tape are Jane Tarrant & Emma Reed wearing in THE Sun & The i Paper?
I personally make my own mouth tape from Kinesiology Tape. Before you jump online to order the cheapest option though, beware that I’ve trialled a few and some of the cheaper China shipped ones weren’t so good, resulting in blackheads, uncomfortable removal and remaining residue. I have personally enjoyed using the following brands of Kinesiology Tape as have a number of people I’ve worked with. I recommend you test patch your skin before use on your face. I cut it 1 square wide for day use and 2-3 squares wide for night use. If too sticky and uncomfortable, apply to hand first and then apply vertically above and then below lips as you press lips together. Peel off very slowly and carefully downwards. You are usually able to remove half of it to drink or talk and then replace it for the rest of the night. Please note it is not advised if you have been drinking alcohol if there is a risk of being unresponsive or unconscious. It is also not advise for night use for children in case they need to vomit (although can be used during TV time etc when supervised). You’ll need a nice sharp pair of scissors.
